Silhouette style, simple controls

Rather than using intricate and colorful character designs and costumes, Shadow Fight 2 uses silhouette-style characters with beautiful backdrops. If that seems like a cop-out, it isn't: what Shadow Fight 2 lacks in character art, it easily makes up for with realistic, physics-based fighting animations. The animations are so smooth that it almost seems real as you battle foe after foe.

The control system in Shadow Fight 2 gives you a directional stick on the left with buttons for punching and kicking on the right. But it's the combinations of directions and types of attack that give you different moves. It's important to learn the moves, particularly for when you play more difficult opponents. Though you can get away with button mashing early on, it's your technique and strategy that will help you win against bosses.

Upgradeable weapons, armor, and fighting styles

As you fight your way through matches, you'll earn gold that can be used to upgrade your fighter. Shadow Fight 2 boasts hundreds of weapon types, and each type changes the fighting style of your character. If you're wielding a sword, for example, you'll have a slower fighting style and moves that make sense with a sword, whereas with two daggers, your attacks are much more quick and precise.

To get a weapon, you can bring your earned coins to the in-game shop between fights and pick from several different weapon types. Once you own a weapon, you also can use gold to upgrade its stats for more power in the arena. The same is true for armors and helmets, with several different tiers for quality and upgrade paths that give you better defensive stats.

With every fight you earn experience, and when your character levels up, you'll also be able to enhance your fighting style with both passive and active perks. For example, you might select the Desperate passive perk, which gives you +30 percent damage when your health is lower than 10 percent. You can also get an active perk, such as the Double Sweep, which lets you sweep the feet of your opponents to knock them down. Each decision you make on the perk skill tree changes your fighting style, so it's important to learn what works and what doesn't.

A huge amount of content

What really blew me away about Shadow Fight 2 is just how much there is to do in the game. There are six different worlds, each with a main boss that needs to be beaten in order to move on to the next world. But along the way you'll need to take part in tournaments, survival challenges, and special duels so you can earn money to upgrade your character. A tournament challenges you to fight through 24 different opponents, each harder than the last. In survival, you're just trying to see how long you can stay alive against multiple successive opponents. Duels pay the most gold, but you can only do one duel every four hours.

What's neat about it is the game is set up in such a way that you'll need to use all of the game types in a world to get ready for the big boss fight. Make no mistake -- the bosses in Shadow Fight 2 are tough, and you'll need to max out your upgrades if you hope to stand a chance against them.

One thing that's problematic is the inability to sync between iOS devices. With all this content, it would be better if, after playing all day on my iPhone, I could switch to the iPad when I get home. But as is, you're going to want to only play on one device, because it's too much trouble to unlock everything again on another device.

Not only do you get different fighting moves based on the weapon you're holding, once you pass the first boss, you'll get to add ranged attacks to your arsenal. Then, when you beat the second boss, you'll be able to add attack spells you can cast for more damage during a fight. I really like that there are goals to shoot for in Shadow Fight 2, keeping the game interesting beyond the already tight fighting mechanics.

Freemium annoyances

As I mentioned earlier, Shadow Fight 2 is a freemium game, and it employs a few annoying techniques to get your cash. In the game, you can play through just five fights before your energy meter runs dry, requiring you to wait for it to replenish or pay real money to power it back up. There is some relief, though, giving you one energy back if you watch a 15-second ad (mostly game ads, in my experience). The problem is, there is also a limit to those ads, and when you run out, you can either wait or pay.

The more annoying strategy to take your money, however, comes with purchasing items. There are a number of weapons, helmets, and armor you can buy with coins you earn in the game, which is fine and as it should be. But there are also items that require you to pay only with gems (the game's currency you can purchase for real money). I can understand making it difficult to earn an item (and making money the easy route), but making it exclusive to those who pay cash is especially annoying. Of course, the items that can't be purchased with gold are often the most interesting and powerful, so you'll definitely feel the frustration like I did when you browse through items.

Conclusion

There are a lot of fighting games in the App Store. But Shadow Fight 2 stands out with a unique silhouette style, amazingly smooth animations, and several worlds to explore.

I usually have a hard time recommending freemium apps, but Shadow Fight 2 is an exception. Yes, it's really annoying that some items are simply unattainable without using real money, but with everything else the game brings, it's worth jumping through those hoops.

If you're looking for a button masher, Shadow Fight 2 is not your game, but for fun game modes, precise controls, and extra content, it might be the best available. That is, if you can live with the in-your-face freemium model.

Subway Surfers is a freemium game, but in this case it shouldn’t really put you off. Coins are not too hard to come by and enough for various bonuses can be earned with just a run or two. Some of the later characters are, however, extremely expensive and will probably require in app purchases which aren’t too unreasonable.

Subway Surfers review:A colorful game you should try

Like I said earlier, Subway Surfers apk is a very, very colorful game. The trees are green, the sky is blue and the trains color scheme consists mostly of yellow and red. The game looks like a cartoon in the best way. And like a cartoon, there is a large cast of 10 characters - each unlocked in a different way. The first few you can unlock using coins, but the last 3 characters you unlock using items from the mystery boxes that you pick up on the tracks. I have probably spent...I don't know the literal amount, but it's almost certainly more time that I should have trying to unlock some of these characters. Hours upon hours grinding the railways for coins at mystery boxes, just for the chance at finding that third red beanie to unlock a certain character. Like gambling, it's a really addicting system, but with this game using an IAP model, it could be a problem for some.
More on the IAP, there is an in-game store where you can buy items and power-ups to help you - using your hard earned coins, or you could straight up buy them through the Google Play store. There are three amounts of coins you can buy with real money, 7500 coins for 99c, 45000 coins for 4.99 and 180000 coins for 19.99. I did try to buy coins through the Play store, but they actually arrived, so I say you should probably avoid purchasing coins (I made that mistake twice). Using your in-game coins you can buy, a two levels of head starts - the more expensive one allows you to have a greater head start and a pass to skip the 1st mission. You can also upgrade your Jetpack, Super Sneakers, Coin Magnet and the 2X multiplier. It's a feature that ends up being more useful than you think.
Like most other score-driven games, Subway Surfers also includes a few social features like Facebook integration, which allows you to brag to your friends, receive free coins and use a leaderboard. There are also a few trophies for you to collect, which provides a fun distraction. I don't have much to say about the music in Subway Surfers. It's fun for a little, but after a while it grates on your nerves with the same looping music.
All-in-all, Subway Surfers stands out because it takes a very popular and established formula and iterates on it in a few important ways. The mission system is varied enough to provide you with a reason to keep coming back to the game, the characters are fun, quirky and charming and the additions that Kiloo and Sybo have added to the gameplay, really make it something special and it is definitely a game that deserves a spot in your games folder (or however else you organize your games/apps)

Clash of Clans 9game has all the ingredients that make it a compelling game, baring some bug fixing, tuning and balance. Free to download and play, new RTS players will find this game immensely addictive. Until the balance issues are resolved however, longevity is limited. Am I still playing? Yes. I created another account on a second device because the low level game is just plain addictive. This game has the potential to be great.
The game starts you off with an amount of Gold, Elixir and Gems and takes you through the different actions in game, including speeding up builds (and spending those gems), attacking in the single player game and introducing you to the clan castle which needs to be repaired before you can join a clan. At tutorial’s end you have two workers to build structures and clear land with and about 250 Gems which can be saved for later use or used to speed things up.
The tap and drag action works for everything in the game. Although you cannot control your attackers after you’ve deployed them, each type of soldier you can train has different stats and prefers different targets. It’s as simple as picking the type and tapping to land them in enemy territory. You do get a target reticule on the structure that they are fixed on and you can spend a few seconds glaring at them, as they attack a wall, while getting fired at instead of going for that convenient break you just made that seems oh, so close but are beyond their AI “let’s use the breech” range.
The single player game is mainly for trying out different troops and tactics, as they cannot be replayed after you’ve defeated it, and they do not scale with your level. By the time you are about level 20, the map available has defenses quite a bit higher than you can hope to win with your troops.
That said, there is no farming in this game. Single player maps are not re-playable and you cannot attack anyone outside of the match-making system and one-time revenge on the person that attacked you. This slows down the game considerably unless you pay for some Gems. The lowest denomination is $5 for 500. That buys one additional worker, or at about level 25, fills up your army camps about 8 - 10 times quickly – depending on the troops you are training and assuming you have the elixir.

Vector game ‘s disadvantage

Vector free is not without its flaws. For one, the base gameplay feels a tad too slow. I would have preferred it to be faster. Then there are a series of performance issues. The game drops framerates all too often, which somewhat cheapens the playing experience. Navigating through the menus is also a pain as everything takes five seconds to respond to your input, and loading times are annoyingly long. The controls at the initial stage might turn-off potential suitors too as they don’t perform consistently until you’ve spent sufficient time to master them.
While Vector is downloadable for free, I recommend you get the ‘Duluxe’ version which runs for $0.99 and can be bought by making an in-app purchase. This removes ads, rewards you for every star collected and gives access to bonus levels. IAPs for coins are present as well in Vector, but if you three-star every level (which mind you is no easy task!), you will get more than enough coins to unlock all the special moves.
Conclusion:
My experience with Vector was kind of mixed. Initially, I liked it (mostly due to the character animation and awesome stunts), but once that novelty wore-off I felt it was too bland and lacked that special ingredient to keep my attention. However, once I unlocked the second world, things became more exciting with the introduction of a few new mechanics.
Also, once I started trying to perfect each level, I saw that the game had more depth than it initially seemed. Indeed, the controls can be frustrating at times and the various performance issues take some shine away from the game, but seeing your nameless hero perfectly executing stunts that most of us can only dream of just about makes up for it.
